3-year-old Arial Harrison was attacked last April by a neighborhood dog that had gotten loose. Arial was jumping on the trampoline with her brother in their grandmother’s backyard. The dog jumped on the trampoline with them and began the attack. Her brother managed to get away, but Arial was not so lucky. Despite her grandmothers best efforts to save little Arial, it was too late. Her scalp, hair, and ears were all destroyed in the attack.
In a moment her life was changed forever. In the past year, Arial has gone through many surgeries to help reconstruct her skull and face.
She can hear out of two small holes on either side of her head where here ears should be. Insurance won’t pay for her to get her ears reconstructed because they consider it a cosmetic surgery, not a necessity.
Arial has asked her mom, “Where are my ears?” Can you imagine trying to explain to a 3-year-old why she doesn’t have ears? Why insurance doesn’t feel they are necessary?
It will cost $3000 plus tax per ear for Arial to have surgery. Arial’s friends and family are trying to raise $7000 to give Arial ears.
Arial is starting to notice people looking at her. Starting to understand there is something different. They are hoping that getting ears will help her feel not so different.
A friend of Arial’s mom, Aiyana Hagan of Forever Flowering Photography, is trying to raise money through her photography. She is doing $30 sessions and giving 50% of all the money to Arial for her surgery. If you are interested in booking a session to help Arial out you can find out more on her facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ForeverFloweringPhotography/
If you wish to donate directly to Arial’s surgery her parents have created a donation page at You Caring https://www.youcaring.com/kendracanendonaldharrison-1133829/thankyou?utm_campaign=buttonshare
